BSF Recruitment 2023: The Border Security Force (BSF) has announced a recruitment notification inviting online applications from eligible Indian male and female citizens for the post of Constable (Tradesman) in the year 2023. The recruitment drive aims to fill up a total of 1284 vacancies, out of which 1220 vacancies are reserved for male candidates, and 64 vacancies for female candidates. The selected candidates will be appointed in the pay matrix Level-3, with a pay scale of Rs. 21,700-69,100/-, along with other allowances admissible to Central Government employees. As per BSF Recruitment 2023 official notification, the candidates will also be entitled to receive Ration allowance, Medical Assistance, free accommodation, free leave pass, and other benefits granted to BSF employees. The detailed state-wise, trade-wise, and category-wise distribution of vacancies for male and female candidates is provided in the appended documents.
The eligibility criteria for the post include a minimum age of 18 years and a maximum age of 25 years as of the last date of online application, with relaxations applicable for candidates belonging to SC/ST/OBC categories and other special categories of personnel as per Central Government instructions. As per BSF Recruitment 2023 official notification, the educational qualifications required for different trades of Constable (Cobbler), Constable (Tailor), Constable (Washerman), Constable (Barber), Constable (Sweeper), Constable (Cook), Constable (Water Carrier), and Constable (Waiter) are also provided in the notification. The candidates should note that the date of birth as recorded in the Matriculation/Secondary Examination certificate or an equivalent certificate will only be accepted by the BSF for determining the age, and no subsequent request for its change will be considered or granted.

As per BSF Recruitment 2023 official notification, the candidate must be between 18 to 25 years of age as on the last date of online application. Age relaxation is provided to candidates belonging to SC/ST/OBC categories and other special categories as per the instructions issued by the Central Government from time to time.
As per BSF Recruitment 2023 official notification, the educational qualification for above mentions posts are given below:
For trades of Constable(Cobbler), Constable(Tailor), Constable(Washerman), Constable(Barber) and Constable(Sweeper): The candidate must have passed Matriculation or equivalent from a recognized Board and must be proficient in the respective trade. The candidate must also qualify in the trade test conducted by the recruitment board.
For the trades of Constable(Cook), Constable(Water Carrier), and Constable(Waiter): The candidate must have passed Matriculation or equivalent from a recognized Board and should have completed National Skills Qualifications Framework (NSQF) level-I Course in food production or Kitchen from National Skill Development Corporation or from the institutes recognized by National Skill Development Corporation.
Note: Multi-skilled candidates will be given preference. Educational certificates other than State Board/Central Board should be accompanied by the Government of India notifications declaring that such qualification is equivalent to Matric /10th class pass for service under Central Government.
As per BSF Recruitment 2023 official notification, the physical standards for candidates in the given information are divided by gender and various categories such as Scheduled Tribes, North Eastern States, and hilly regions.
For male candidates, the minimum height required is 165 cm, with a chest measurement of 75-80 cm, except for specific categories that have been granted relaxations. Similarly, for female candidates, the minimum height required is 155 cm, with no chest measurement requirement. The relaxations in height and chest measurements are given for candidates belonging to Scheduled Tribes, LWE-affected districts, North Eastern States, and specific regions like Gorkha Territorial Administration.
The weight of the candidate must be as per the standard height-weight chart prescribed in the Uniform Guidelines for Medical Examination Test Recruitment. The medical standard requires a minimum distance vision of 6/6 and 6/9 in the other eye without correction, with no knock-knee, flat foot, varicose vein or squint in the eyes, and in good mental and bodily health, free from any physical defect likely to interfere with the efficient performance of duties.
Additionally, candidates must qualify in the physical efficiency test, Physical Standard Test, written test, and medical examination.
As per BSF Recruitment 2023 official notification, the selection process for recruitment to the post of constable (General Duty) in the Border Security Force (BSF) consists of two phases:
(A) First Phase – Written Examination
Candidates whose online application forms are found to be in order will be called to appear in the Written Examination. The Written Examination will be of 100 marks containing 100 questions. It will consist of CBT (Computer Based Test) or OMR-based objective type multiple choice questions to be answered using a Blue or Black ballpoint pen only.
The question paper will consist of one objective type paper containing 100 questions carrying 100 marks with the following composition:
All candidates are required to fill and the shade, name, roll number, date of birth, language, Post/Trade, category and question booklet series code given in the OMR sheet because this information are essential for the evaluation of the answer sheet. Ovals as printed against each should be shaded properly. Correction fluid should not be used. Hence the ovals should be filled carefully.
(B) Second Phase of Examination
(a) Physical Standard Test (PST) and Physical Efficiency Test (PET):
Candidates will be restricted to six (6) times the number of vacancies notified/allotted to their respective State as per marks obtained from their written examination for the second phase of examination.
(i) At the very beginning, candidates will be asked to go through the height bar, and thereby, candidates with lesser height will get eliminated and will not be allowed to participate in the further process of recruitment.
(ii) Those candidates who qualify the height bar will be subject to Physical Efficiency Test (PET) which will be as under:
Event – Male – Female Race – 5 Kilometers race to be completed within 24 minutes. – 1.6 Kilometers race to be completed within 8.30 minutes.
(iv) Those candidate(s) who qualify in PET will be subject to biometric identification & screening of testimonials/documentss by the Board. The candidates who do not fulfill the laid down physical standards will be eliminated from the recruitment process. However, elimination on grounds of weight will be done at the time of medical examination only.
(v) Woman candidate, who as a result of tests is found to be pregnant of 12 weeks standing or over, shall be declared temporarily unfit, and her appointment held in abeyance until the confinement is over. The vacancy against which a woman candidate was selected should be kept reserved for her. She should be re-examined for PET six weeks after the date of confinement, subject to the production of the medical certificate of fitness from a registered medical practitioner.
(vi) Original documents/testimonials of candidates will be checked by the Board of Officers, and only eligible candidates will go to the next stage.
(vii) Any candidate found under the influence of any energetic medicine during PET will be debarred from the further process of recruitment.
Note-I: No physical efficiency test will be held for Ex-servicemen. Note-II: PET will be only qualifying in nature and it will not carry any marks.
(b) Documentation:
Candidates will carry the original and photocopy of all related documents at the time of documentation. All certificates/testimonials related to Date of Birth, Name, essential qualification, Caste certificate including OBC certificate as per Govt. of India list of OBCs, SCs, and STs, domicile certificate, identity verification of the candidates required to be verified/
As per BSF Recruitment 2023 official notification, candidates belonging to Un-reserved (UR), EWS, or OBC categories applying for recruitment to the posts will have to pay Rs. 100/- (One Hundred) as an examination fee plus Rs.47.20 service charges levied by Common Service Centre (CSC). The fee can be paid through net banking, credit/debit card of any bank or the nearest authorized Common Service Centre.
Women candidates and candidates belonging to Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribes, BSF serving personnel, and Ex-Servicemen are exempted from paying the examination fee.
Payment of the examination fee will be accepted only through online mode, and the fee once paid will not be refunded under any circumstances.
If a candidate belonging to non-exempted categories does not pay the examination fee, their form will not be accepted.
To apply for recruitment, candidates must submit their application online mode only on the BSF website. The application process will be open from 26/02/2023 at 00:01 AM and will close on 27/03/2023 at 11:59 PM. Candidates are advised to carefully read the advertisement notice and follow the procedure for submission of online application as provided in Appendix-„C‟.
As per BSF Recruitment 2023 official notification, Candidates must also submit a copy of their valid “Domicile/Permanent Residential Certificate (PRC)” issued by the competent authority authorized by the concerned State/UT to prove their domiciliary status. West Pakistani Refugee (WPR) settled in J&K and Ladakh are exempted to produce domicile certificates, and they will produce a Nativity/Identity certificate as per Annexure – V issued by the village Sarpanch/Numberdar along with a copy of the electoral roll showing the name of the candidate in the voter list for the election of the Parliamentary Constituency. Candidates from the State of Assam are not required to submit a domicile certificate but their selection will be subject to verification of residential status from the concerned District Authorities.
Candidates must also submit necessary certificates as proof of their expertise or proficiency in the applied trade as mentioned in the advertisement notice, as the post of Constable (Tradesmen) is purely skill-based.
