CLAT 2025: What is CLAT?

The Consortium of National Law Universities (NLUs) administers the Common Law Admission Test (CLAT), a national admission examination. For entrance to the one-year LLM (PG) and five-year integrated LLB (UG) programs, this exam is administered once a year. The exam is designed to grant admission to 21 NLUs for postgraduate studies and 24 NLUs for undergraduate degrees. Every year, the exam is administered offline using a pen and paper. Subjects or topics covering legal aptitude, current events, general knowledge, English, math, and logical thinking are included in the CLAT Exam.

The candidate’s CLAT results determine their admission to one of the National Law Universities (NLUs). However, there are other universities beyond NLU that also accept applications based on a candidate’s CLAT results- (a) 61 other private affiliate colleges and (b) Some public organizations such as ONGC and BHEL.
