Demat account users in India more than doubles to 7.38 crore in Oct 2021 in 3 Years According to the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI), there are approximately 2.75 crore mutual fund (MF) investors, 7.38 crore Demat account holders, and 1,324 SEBI Registered Investment Advisors as of October 31, 2021. (RIA). In a written response to a question in the Lok Sabha today, Union Minister of State for Finance Shri Pankaj Chaudhary stated as much. According to the Minister, the ratio of Mutual Fund investors and Demat Account holders to Registered Investment Advisors (RIA) in India is around 76,510: 1. More specifically, the Minister indicated that the total number of Demat Accounts at the conclusion of the last three years, as well as the increase in the number of Demat Accounts, are as follows: The Minister also stated that on 21.1.2013, the SEBI (Investment Advisers) Regulations, 2013 were notified in order to strengthen the regulatory framework for Investment Advisers. Following that, certain revisions to the Investment Advisers Regulations were notified on 3.7.2020, according to the Minister. In response to a query on whether high entry hurdles have resulted in a reduction in the number of approved financial advisors in India, the Minister stated that, according to SEBI data, the registered Investment Advisers have climbed from 1,298 (as of June 30, 2020) to 1324. (as on October 31, 2021).
