Government distributes subsidised Bharat Atta ahead of Diwali
In order to alleviate food inflation, the Union government has agreed to distribute wheat flour (atta) at subsidised prices of Rs. 27.50 per kg, as opposed to the market pricing, which ranges between Rs. 40 and 45 per kg.
In accordance with this decision, Union Minister Piyush Goyal flagged off 130 mobile vans for the sale of atta under the ‘Bharat Atta’ brand in the Delhi-NCR region on Monday.
During the product’s debut, Piyush Goyal stated, “The government of India has taken several steps for the welfare of both farmers and consumers. We have procured food items whenever we saw the people of the country struggling owing to rising prices and have sold them at subsidised prices to help the consumers.”
According to the government, the Bharat Atta would be available in 10 kilogramme and 30 kg packs, and will be sold in Mother Dairy, NAFED, and NCCF shops, among other cooperatives.
The Union government also greatly boosted the total amount of wheat available for sale on the open market in order to maintain reasonable retail prices.
Notably, wheat exports have previously been prohibited in order to assure adequate domestic availability.
Previously, the government created the Bharat Dal (pulses) initiative, under which chickpeas (chana dal) were sold for Rs. 60 per 1kg package and Rs. 55 per kg for a 30 kg packet.
The government is also selling onions at Rs. 25 per kg at around 150 places in the Delhi-NCR region.
