The facility to view data from a GST return filed seven years ago on the GST portal will expire on October 1. This means that data older than September 2017 will be wiped out starting October 1. However, traders are advised to archive their data as needed.

According to official information from the State GST Commissioner’s office, data for taxpayers would only be kept for seven years under the GST portal data policy. As a result, the GST portal now follows the same data policy. Thus, taxpayers will be unable to review return data older than seven years.

Therefore, the return filed for July 2017 was archived on August 1, and the data for August 2017 was archived on September 1. Furthermore, this data archiving will be done on a monthly basis, thus on October 1, data from September 2017 would be removed from the GST portal, and so on.

As a result, taxpayers are urged to download their pertinent data from the GST portal for future reference, if necessary. It has also been said that under Section 39 (11) of the CGST Act, 2017, which went into force on October 1, 2023, Central Tax dated July 31, 2023 states that taxpayers would not be able to file GST returns after three years from the due date of the return.
