In a major crackdown, the state GST department recently discovered a Rs.3.28 crore fraud involving unbilled sales in the B2C sector.

The government conducted targeted inspections in Surat, Bhavnagar, Kalol, and other places in response to specific intelligence indicating large-scale unreported transactions in the run-up to Diwali.

The investigation focused on enterprises that sold high-demand items such as pyrotechnics, ice cream, and textiles. All of the traders involved were found to be holding large amounts of unaccounted stock and engaging in numerous unbilled transactions.

A fireworks business in Bhavnagar evaded Rs.1.72 crore, followed by another fireworks seller in Surat who evaded Rs.41 lakh. An ice cream merchant in Amreli was found to have evaded Rs.30 lakh, while a textile seller in Gandhinagar evaded Rs.85 lakh.
