ISC Class 12th English Syllabus 2024: The Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE) has successfully concluded the 2023 examination process for ISC class 12th. The new students who have recently entered class 12th after passing their class 11th exam will be giving the ISC class 12th exam in 2024. It is essential for students to know the detailed syllabus before appearing for the ISC board exam this year. It helps in preparing the subject entirely on time and scoring better. Keeping this in mind, the CISCSE  has released the ISC Class 12th English syllabus 2024.

ISC Class 12th English Syllabus 2024

The ISC class 12th English subject consists of two components: English Language and Literature in English. Both these papers are conducted for 100 marks. As the name suggests, English Language paper is heavy on the grammatical part while Literature in English Paper consists of prose and poetry. The detailed syllabus for both these English subjects is mentioned below:

A) English Language

The English Language consists of two papers. Paper I is a written exam while paper II is a project work.

Paper I

Paper I is a theory examination held during the board exam. The weightage of Paper I is 80 marks. Paper I is organized for 3 hours. The complete format of Paper I for the English Language is listed below.

Question One:

A composition on one of a number of subjects.

Question Two:

(a) Directed writing (article writing, book review, film review, review of cultural program, speech writing, report writing, personal profile, and statement of purpose) based on suggested points.

(b) Proposal Writing based on a given situation. The proposal should include (i) An Introduction (ii) Objectives (iii) A list of measures to be taken.

Question Three:

Short-answer questions to test grammar, structure, and usage.

Question Four:

Comprehension.

Paper II

Paper II is known as project work. It is held for 20 marks. Candidates are assessed in three projects, one each on Listening, Speaking, and Writing skills. Students can opt for their project work from the following assignments:

The text of a brochure
A product description
A process description (e.g. instruction to operate a device, a recipe, a scientific experiment)
Description of a sporting event
An autobiographical experience
Review of a television serial

B) Literature in English

The Literature in English subject also consists of two papers. Paper I is a written exam while paper II is a project work.

Paper I

Paper I is a theory examination held during the board exam. The weightage of Paper I is 80 marks. Paper I is conducted for 3 hours. The different units covered in the Paper I of the Literature in English subject are listed below.

I. Drama: The Tempest- William Shakespeare (Acts 3, 4, and 5)

II. Reverie: A collection of ISC poems (Evergreen Publications India Ltd, New Delhi)

III. Echoes: A collection of ISC short stories (Evergreen Publications India Ltd, New Delhi)

Paper II

Paper II is called project work. It is held for 20 marks. Candidates are assessed internally by the subject teacher and externally by the visiting examiner. In this exam, candidates must complete one written assignment of 1000-1500 words.
