Ministry of Science and Technology Recruitment 2023: The Department of Science and Technology in India has opened four direct recruitment positions for Scientists. The applications are open to Indian citizens for two permanent positions of Scientist-‘C’ and two permanent positions of Scientist-‘D’. The pay scale for the Scientist-‘C positions is at Level-11 in the pay matrix Rs. 67700-208700/-. The Scientist-‘D’ positions are at Level-12 in the pay matrix Rs. 78800-209200/-. The educational and other qualifications for the positions are provided for each vacancy. The nature of the posts is permanent, and the total number of vacancies for each is also given.
As per the Ministry of Science and Technology Recruitment 2023 official notification, For the two Scientist-‘C positions, one vacancy is for Pharmacy, and the other is for Physics. Both positions require a Master’s degree in the relevant discipline from a recognized university or equivalent, along with four years of experience in research and development in industrial and academic institutions or science and technology organizations and scientific activities and services. The Scientist-‘D’ position for Pharmacy requires a Master’s degree in Pharmacy from a recognized university or equivalent, with eight years of experience in research and development in industrial and academic institutions or science and technology organizations and scientific activities and services. The Scientist-‘D’ positions for Medicinal Chemistry and Bio-Technology have the same experience requirement and a different set of educational qualifications.
As per the Ministry of Science and Technology Recruitment 2023 official notification, the upper age limit for direct recruits is 35 years for Scientist-‘C’ and 40 years for Scientist-‘D’. Government servants can receive a relaxation of up to five years, according to the orders issued by the Central Government. The selection process is determined by the Central Government, and it may include a written test if required. Eligible candidates should submit their applications online through the recruitment portal provided, with a valid email id. Applications received through other means are not accepted. The instructions for filling out the online application and uploading relevant certificates and documents are available on the portal. For the post of Scientist-‘°C’, there are two vacancies, and the nature of the post is permanent. The scale of pay is Level-11 in the pay matrix Rs. 67700-208700/-. The essential qualification for the Pharmacy discipline is a Master’s Degree in Pharmacy from a recognized university or equivalent. A Doctorate Degree in Pharmacy from a recognized university or equivalent is desirable. For the Physics discipline, the essential qualification is a Master’s Degree in Physics from a recognized university or equivalent. A Doctorate Degree in Physics from a recognized university or equivalent is desirable.
Additionally, candidates applying for the post of Scientist-‘°C’ must have four years of experience in Research and Development in Industrial and Academic Institutions or Science and Technology Organizations and scientific activities and services.

For the Medicinal Chemistry/Bio-Technology discipline, the essential qualification is a Master’s Degree in the respective field from a recognized university or equivalent. A Doctorate Degree in the respective field from a recognized university or equivalent is desirable. For Bio-Technology, candidates must have a Bachelor of Engineering or Technology in Bio-Technology from a recognized university or equivalent. Alternatively, a Master of Science degree in Bio-Technology from a recognized university or equivalent can also suffice. If the essential degree is a Bachelor of Engineering or Technology, then the desirable degree is a Master of Engineering or Technology in Bio-Technology from a recognized university or equivalent. If the essential degree is a Master of Science, then the desirable degree is a Doctorate Degree in Bio-Technology from a recognized university or equivalent.
According to the Ministry of Science and Technology Recruitment 2023 official notification, the age limit for the post of Scientist ‘C’ is 35 years, and for Scientist ‘D,’ it is 40 years, as on the closing date for receipt of applications. However, the upper age limit is relaxable for Government servants up to five years as per the orders issued by the Central Government. Any other relaxation in the age limit shall also be in accordance with orders issued by the Central Government from time to time.
According to the Ministry of Science and Technology Recruitment 2023 official notification, the screening and selection process for the post of Scientist ‘C’ and Scientist ‘D’ shall be carried out as per the guidelines and regulations set by the Central Government. An eligibility committee will be formed to verify the educational and other qualifications of the applicants. The committee will then shortlist the eligible candidates based on their qualifications and experience.
The shortlisted candidates will be called for an interview conducted by the interview board. The composition of the eligibility committee, screening-cum-shortlisting committee, and interview board will be in accordance with the regulations set by the Central Government. It is noteworthy that the majority of the members of the screening-cum-shortlisting committee and interview board, including the Chairman, will be from outside the Department of Science and Technology.
If deemed necessary, a written test may also be conducted by the Central Government or any other Central Government agency or organization with expertise in the relevant field. It is advisable for the candidates to keep themselves updated with the guidelines and regulations set by the Central Government for the screening and selection process.
