NBEMS Issues Notice on Normalisation Procedure for NEET PG 2024 Result Preparation

It is even less than 24 hours left for the scheduling time for the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) PG 2024, the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) has released an official notification regarding the procedure that will be used to prepare the NEET PG 2024 Result. The notice was released, yesterday, August 10, 2024. The notice stated that this year the NBEMS will use a normalisation procedure for the preparations of the NEET PG 2024 Result. The NEET PG 2024 is scheduled for tomorrow i.e., August 11, 2024. The exam will be organised in two shifts.

  • How the normalization process of calculating results works:

In this process, the exam results are calculated separately for every shift. This means that instead of combining or averaging raw scores, percentages, and percentiles across subjects, they are calculated separately for each subject.

Percentiles are the metric values through which a candidate is represented by its rank across all the other candidates instead of looking at the raw scores of the candidate. For example, if a candidate has reached the 80 percentile it means he/she has performed better than 80% of the candidates who attended the exam.

Every candidate’s scores are converted into percentiles, a range between 1 to 100. In this candidate is ranked on a number between 1 to 100. The highest scorer in the exam gets 100 percentile which means he/she has performed better than all the other candidates who appeared for the exam.

Basically, percentile values show how a candidate has performed in comparison to all other candidates in the exam, rather than an average score across subjects.

The official notification reads, “NBEMS has adopted the process which is currently being used by AIIMS-New Delhi for its various examinations conducted in more than one shift including but not limited to INI-CET, in preparation for the result for NEET-PG 2024.”

In the notice, NBEMS asked candidates to refer to the public notice no. 35/2023 dated 20.01.2023 published by AIIMS, New Delhi on the official website if want to know more details about the normalization process.

If candidates have any issues or queries, they can contact NBEMS at 011-45593000 or write to NBEMS at its Communication Web Portal.
