NEET UG Exam 2024 Irregularities: Calcutta High Court Sought Response from NTA Alleged Irregularities in Conduction of NEET UG 2024

NEET UG Exam 2024 Irregularities: The Calcutta High Court seeks the National Testing Agency (NTA) to file a thorough affidavit within 10 days in response to a public interest litigation (PIL) that claims there were various irregularities in the NEET (UG) 2024 exam. Tanmoy Chattopadhyay has launched a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) challenging the present scoring method, which she claims makes it difficult for candidates to obtain scores of 718 or 719.

Bar and Bench, which consists of Justices Kaushik Chanda and Apurba Singh Ray, observed that the NTA has used a Supreme Court ruling in Akshat Aggarwal and Others v. Union of India and Others to support the marks awarded. The Court asserted that the affidavit from the NTA was required in order to approach the allegations completely.

It was said that the National Testing Agency seeks to justify the awarding of such marks based on the judgment passed by the Supreme Court in Writ Petition (Civil) No.600 of 2018 (Akshat Aggarwal & Ors. v. Union of India & Ors.). It is impossible to determine the justification for such an activity without an affidavit from the National Testing Agency. As a result, in answer to the claims stated in this writ petition, NTA shall file an affidavit within ten days of the date of this judgment,” the Court directed, as cited by Bar and Bench.

Additionally, the Court ordered the NTA to explain in its affidavit how the merit list for the NEET (UG) 2024 exam reflected the application of both state and federal government reservation regulations. This action is directed to ensure transparency and compliance with reservation norms, Bar and Bench’s report stated.

The Court has ordered the NTA to keep all records concerning the NEET (UG) 2024 exam till further orders.
Advocate Sunit Kumar Roy appeared on behalf of the other respondent, while Deputy Solicitor General of India Dhiraj Kumar Trivedi and advocate Tirtha Pati Acharyya represented the NTA and the Union of India. This decision comes in response to questions posed concerning the justifiability of the NEET (UG) exam, which is essential for those aspiring to become doctors nationwide.

The Court declared that the results of the counselling procedure would be binding on the resolution of the writ petition and also stated that the affidavit should also contain the details of how the Central Government’s and the State’s reservation policies were adhered to in making the merit list. After two weeks, list this item before the Regular Bench under the same subject. Until further directive from this Court, the National Testing Agency will maintain the records related to the NEET (UG) 2024 Examination.
