Penalty of Rs.1.2 crore recovered in GST Crackdown
The Enforcement Wing of the State Taxes Department, Samba, accomplished an outstanding feat in the current financial year 2024-25 by levying penalties of Rs. 1.2 crore after finding 190 cases of GST violations involving the movement of goods in transit.
The vigorous enforcement measures, led by Deputy Commissioner State Taxes Enforcement Samba, Sanjay Gupta, have targeted high-tax-prone items like metal waste, cement, granite/marble, TMT bars, and tobacco.
This tremendous accomplishment was made possible under the supervision of Commissioner State Taxes P.K. Bhat and Additional Commissioner Namrita Dogra. Their strategic direction has allowed the enforcement team to implement innovative tactics such as enhanced e-way bill verification, data analytics, and round-the-clock vigilance actions, including 24-hour checkpoints (Nakas).
Particularly, the Enforcement Wing verified 2,67,519 e-way bills during the current financial year to November 2024, representing a 72% increase over the previous year. This rise illustrates the department's dedication to combating GST non-compliance and maintaining a transparent tax policy.
The outstanding efforts of Assistant Commissioner Preeti Sharma, STOs Raj Kumar Badgal and Kanchan Bala, Inspectors Rajinder Singh, Sami Ullah, and Jagandeep Singh, and Sub Inspectors Ashish Bruno Khokhar, Sandeep, and Manvinder have been critical in obtaining these outcomes. Their diligent efforts to undertake thorough e-way bill verifications and maintain round-the-clock surveillance have been important in the imposition of these penalties.
