Shri P.R. Vijayan, a former deputy commissioner at the Calicut Airport's air cargo complex, along with his wife Smt. Vasantha and daughters Smt. Dhanya, Smt. Divya, and Smt. Navya, were sentenced today by the Designated Court of the CBI in Ernakulam, Kerala, to two years of solitary confinement and a total fine of Rs. 2.5 crore.
On September 27, 2006, the CBI filed a complaint against the defendant based on allegations that Shri P.R. Vijayan had accumulated assets totaling Rs. 79,93 in his name and the names of his wife and three daughters between July 2003 and July 2005 while serving as the Dy. Commissioner at the Air Cargo Complex, Calicut Airport and as the Dy. Commissioner Air Customs, Calicut Airport.
A chargesheet was submitted against the accused on June 30, 2008, following an inquiry. Trial Court found said defendants guilty and sentenced them to prison time. The Court cleared two of the charges.
