NEET Result Controversy 2024: Supreme Court will Hear Petitions Contesting Outcomes Due to Purported Irregularities
Three petitions challenging the NEET UG results in 2024 and irregularities will be heard by the Supreme Court today i.e., 13th June 2024. The petitions voicing complaints over the way the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test-Undergraduate (NEET-UG 2024) for admission to MBBS, BDS, and other courses was conducted would be heard by a vacation bench made up of Justices Vikram Nath and Sandeep Mehta.
The decision to award grace marks to 1,563 NEET-UG 2024 candidates for admission to MBBS, BDS, and other courses has been revoked, the Center notified the Supreme Court on Thursday. On 23rd June 2024, these applicants will have the option to retake the exam.
However, the court decided not to stop the admissions counselling procedure. For the purpose of determining the results, the prior marks of each of the 1,563 candidates—aside from the grace marks—will be taken into account.
The centre announced that the retest results will be released on 3oth June 2024 and that admissions counselling for MBBS, BDS, and other programs will begin on 6th July.
Six students from a centre in Faridabad, Haryana, made the list of students who achieved a perfect 720, which is unique in the history of the NTA and raised questions about irregularities.
On 10th June, a large number of students demonstrated in Delhi to demand an investigation into purported anomalies. It has been claimed that grace marks played a part in 67 students sharing the top rank.
Supreme Court Rejects Request to Continue NEET 2024 Counseling
The NEET-UG 2024 counselling procedure will continue, according to the Supreme Court’s decision. The following are the major points:
These changes coincide with claims that students were given grace marks in this year’s NEET test due to NTA’s inappropriate application of a normalization method.
A writ petition alleging NTA “marks inflation” was received by the Supreme Court. In response, NTA established a committee to examine the grace points given to candidates for NEET UG 2024. 5th May 2024 was the date of the NTA-conducted NEET 2024 exam, which is required for admission to undergraduate medical schools.
