JEE-Advanced: Supreme Court Allows Dropped Out JEE Aspirants In Between Nov 5-18 for Registration
JEE-Advanced: The Supreme Court on Friday allowed all the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Aspirants who dropped out between November 5 and November 18, 2024, to complete the registrations for the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE)-Advanced.
A bench of Justices B R Gavai and A G Masih passed the order after hearing the number of petitions against reducing the number of attempts given to JEE-Advanced aspirants from three to two. The order was released after noting down a press release by the Joint Admission Board (JAB), on November 5, 2025, which said students who attended their class 12th examinations in years 2023, 2024 and 2025 are eligible to appear for the JEE-Advanced.
Furthermore, the bench said on November 18, 2024, the press only allowed students to appear for the JEE Advance from academic years 2024 and 2025.
The bench held, “If the students, acting on the said representation (of November 5), have dropped from their course with an understanding that they would be entitled to appear for the JEE examination, the withdrawal of the promise on November 18, 2024, cannot be permitted to act to their detriment.”
The Supreme Court announced without understanding the merits of JAB’s decision, that the JEE Aspirants who dropped out between November 5 and November 18, 2024, will be allowed to register for the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE)-Advanced test.
The Supreme Court heard two petitions, one was written by 22 aspirants, requesting to reduce the number of attempts available to a JEE Advanced aspirant from three to two.
A JEE Advanced aspirant filled a plea stating, “The JAB, vide its press release dated November 5, 2024, first fixed the permissible number of attempts for JEE- Advanced at three, only to change it abruptly vide another press release dated November 18, 2024, and thereby reducing the number of attempts to two.”
