All banks in India are closed today (May 12) on the occasion of Buddha Purnima, a significant religious festival. The Reserve Bank of india has announced six holidays in the month of May 2025. In addition to this, banks will also remain closed on all Sundays and the second and fourth Saturdays in May. Therefore, if you're planning to visit your bank this week, it is important to check the holiday schedule. Here is the bank holiday full schedule.

Bank Holiday Schedule for This Week

  • May 11 (Sunday): All banks, including SBI, will be closed, as Sunday is a regular weekly holiday.
  • May 12 (Monday): Banks will be closed in India for Buddha Purnima. This includes cities Agartala, Aizawl, Belapur, Bhopal, Dehradun, Itanagar, Jammu, Kanpur, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai, Nagpur, New Delhi, Ranchi, Shimla and Srinagar, etc.
  • May 16 (Friday): There is State Day in Sikkim, and therefore, Banks in Sikkim will be closed for the local holiday.
  • May 18 (Sunday): Banks will remain shut for the weekly day off.

  • May 24 (Saturday): Weekly off for the fourth Saturday.
  • May 25 (Sunday): Weekly off.
  • May 26 (Monday): Kazi Nazrul Islam’s Birthday- Banks in Tripura will be closed.
  • May 29 (Thursday): Maharana Pratap Jayanti- Banks in Himachal Pradesh will be closed.

What to do when banks are closed?

When banks are shut, you can use ATMs to access funds. You can also use banking apps, as these services are available unless there is any technical error or maintenance closure announced by the bank. However, you will not be able to process transactions using cheques or promissory notes, as they fall under the Negotiable Instruments Act and are not available on holidays.
