Atanu Chakraborty Resigns as HDFC Bank Chairman and Director Citing Value Misalignment

HDFC Bank Limited has recently disclosed that one of its senior employees, Mr Atanu Chakraborty, possessing DIN: 01469375, has formally announced his resignation from the post of part-time chairman and independent director of the bank. He filed his resignation on March 18, 2026, with immediate effect, i.e., from the date of the resignation letter’s consideration by the Board of HDFC Bank.

In his resignation letter, he claimed that he had joined the bank in May 2021. He further claimed that during his serving period, he had seen several significant events, like the amalgamation of a bank with HDFC Limited, which created a conglomerate under the bank. This was a strategic action, which resulted in the bank’s ranking as the second-largest bank nationwide. However, he claimed that certain practices and developments within the bank over the past two years did not align with his personal values and ethics. Finally, he confirmed that these are all the reasons responsible for his resignation.

The bank has confirmed that there are no other reasons other than those mentioned in Chakraborty’s resignation letter that are responsible for his resignation. Further, Chakraborty claimed he does not possess directorship in any other company. At the end of the resignation letter, he also expressed special gratitude to the Board and senior management for their cooperation and support during his service period.

The bank has made the aforementioned disclosure through a regulatory filing dated March 18, 2026, addressed to the National Stock Exchange (NSE) and the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), issued under Regulation 30 of the SEBI (Listing Obligations and Disclosure Requirements) Regulations, 2015.
