Haryana: Barber Earning Rs. 500 a Day Receives Tax Notice Worth Rs. 37 Crores
Rakesh Kumar, a Barber owner from the Sirsa District of Haryana, received an Income Tax notice demanding Rs. 37.87 Crore. He barely earns Rs. 500 per day and is in deep stress after getting the tax notice. He believes that there has been a misuse of his personal data through his legal documents for creating a fake company. The notice has directed him to respond by April 9, 2025
Rakesh Kumar received the notice on March 29 through a postman, who delivered the envelope to the nearby shop as Rakesh was not at his shop that day. As per Rakesh, he could not read the content of the notice as it was issued in English. So, he asked for help from someone who knew how to read English. He then came to know that this was an income tax notice that asked him to pay Rs. 37,87,61,561 (Rs 37 crore 87 lakh 61 thousand 561).
At first, Rakesh thought that this notice might be for someone else. But when he was told that his name, along with his father’s name, was written on the notice, he was stunned.
He told that he had taken a loan of Rs. 10,000 from ‘Dhani App‘ in the year 2020-21, which he had repaid. He suspects that his documents were misused.
After receiving the notice, Rakesh immediately received an affidavit made from a notary. He went to the DC office to file a complaint, but the employees denied to take his complaint and directed him to visit Chowpata police station, where he filed his complaint.
Rakesh said that he lives in a two-room house on Panchayat land, which is in a very bad condition. He does not own any other property. He and his family are stressed and do not know what will happen next.
As per Manju Devi, a former sarpanch of the village, Rakesh is financial weak and he borrows money to meet his finacial needs. She said that there was some mistake and the Income Department should correct it.
