BJP CA Cell Requests Extension of Due Dates for Tax Audit Reports and ITR for AY 2025-26

In the last few days, many professionals and Chartered Accountants have submitted representations seeking the extension of the due date of return filings. A similar representation has been submitted by the Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) Chartered Accountants Cell, Pimpri Chinchwad (PCMC), to the Hon’ble Finance Minister Smt Nirmala Sitharaman seeking an extension of due dates for filing Tax Audit Reports and ITR for Assessment Year 2025-26.

The cell represents around 3,000 CAs from PCMC and more than 11,000 CAs from Pune city. The cell in the estimated 1.5 crore taxpayers in FY 2024-25, highlighting the need for the extension for this large number of taxpayers. As per the cell, this year there have been several difficulties faced by the taxpayers, such as:

• Ongoing Issues on I-T Portal: Taxpayers are facing several issues, including Login Failures, upload errors, validation mistakes, and e-verification errors, on the Income Tax Portal.
• Heavy Rain in Pune: In recent weeks, the heavy rainfall situation has affected the offices, internet connectivity, and other disruptions in Pune and the nearby districts. Due to this, the working days have been reduced.
• Utilities and Scheme were Released Late: The ITR Utilities and the Tax Audit Report in Form 3CA/3CB-3CD (Rule 6G) were released late with several revisions. This also caused disturbance to the professional software.
• Reduced Working Days Due to Festivals: The September to October season has many important festivals in India, especially in Maharashtra, reducing the effective working days.
• Heavy Compliance Burden on CAs: Other than the income tax compliance, Chartered Accountants are also required to handle GST returns, MCA filings under the Companies Act, and other statutory obligations. The Preparation of TAR u/s 44AB requires detailed reconciliations and disclosures that cannot be done in a rush.

The BJPCA Cell urged the Finance Minister to extend the due date as follows:

• Non-audit ITRs: Extend the current due date from 15th September 2025 to 30th September 2025, as taxpayers are still facing technical issues.
• Tax Audit Reports Under Section 44AB: Extend the due date from 30th September 2025 to 30th November 2025.
• ITRs for Audit Cases Under Section 139(1): Extend the due date from 31st October 2025 to 31st December 2025.

This will ensure that the reporting done under section 44AB, section 92E, and Rule 6G is accurate and fair.
