BJP CA Cell Urges FM: Extend ITR & Audit Due Dates for AY 2025-26
The Chartered Accountants Cell of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Pimpri Chinchwad, representing around 14,000 CAs, has submitted a formal request to the Hon'ble Finance Minister, Smt Nirmala Sitharaman, to extend the due dates for filing Income Tax Return (ITR) and Tax Audit Report for the Assessment Year 2025-26. The cell represents around 3,000 CAs from the PCMC area and around 11,000 CAs from the nearby Pune region.
In the request, the cell outlined that the Pune area had about 75 lakh registered taxpayers in FY 2018-19, as per the Income Tax Department data. This number is now likely to have crossed 1.5 crore in FY 2024-25. Therefore, for this large number of taxpayers, the ITR extension is important.
The cell has also highlighted the difficulties faced by the taxpayers, due to which meeting these deadlines becomes difficult. The cell has named the following challenges faced by the taxpayers:
The Current date for filing ITR for Non-Audit cases is 15th September 2025.
- Late Release of Utilities: The ITR utilities and tax audit report Schema in Form 3CA/ 3CB-3CD (Rule 6G) were released late, and they were updated many times, causing delays in filing.
- Technical Difficulties: The income tax portal still has problems like login failures, upload errors, and e-verification errors, even in September 2025.
- Fewer Working Days: The months of September and October have many important festivals, especially in Maharashtra. Due to this, the taxpayers have fewer working days for filing.
- High Compliance Burden on CAs: The CA not only complies with the income tax, but they also handle GST filings, MCA compliance and other obligations. Due to this, it is not easy to prepare the tax audit report early.
- Heavy Rains Situation: Recent heavy rains in Pune and nearby areas have affected offices, internet services, and travel, further reducing the work time.
| Forms | Original Due Date | Requested Extended Date |
