Breaking: Schools to Remain Shut on these Days in April; Revised Summer Holiday Schedule Announced

In preparation for the upcoming Parliamentary General Elections 2024 in West Bengal, the state’s schools will be closed in accordance with the polling phases. This proactive step aims to facilitate the election process by ensuring that school premises are available for use as polling stations.

The West Bengal Board of Secondary Education (WBBSE) has recently issued a detailed notification giving the closure dates for schools in different districts, aligning with the election schedule. The West Bengal Board of Secondary Education (WBBSE) has given the following closure dates:

  • In the districts of Cooch Behar, Alipurduar, and Jalpaiguri, which are slated for elections in Phase 1 on April 19, 2024, schools will observe a temporary closure from April 16, 2024 (Tuesday) to April 20, 2024 (Saturday), encompassing a span of 5 days.
  • Schools in the districts of Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Uttar Dinajpur, and Dakshin Dinajpur, earmarked for Phase 2 of the elections scheduled on April 26, 2024, will remain closed from April 24, 2024 (Wednesday) to April 27, 2024 (Saturday), spanning a period of 4 days.
  • Apart from this adjustment has been made to the summer holiday schedule for schools. The revised dates now extend from May 6, 2024 (Monday) to June 2, 2024 (Sunday), totaling 22 days excluding holidays and Sundays.

It is essential to highlight that these decisions have been made in partial modification of a previous notification issued on December 20, 2023.

This change is meant to give students and teachers more time to rest and feel refreshed after a busy school year. It shows that schools and election officials are working together to make sure the voting process is fair and works smoothly.
