A businessman from Maharashtra's Thane City Reportedly Cheated of Rs. 4.5 Crore in GST Scam A businessman of 60 years of age, from Maharashtra's Thane city, has reportedly been cheated of Rs. 4.5 Crore in the GST scam by a man, as said by the police on Monday. The accused used the businessman's company to do several transactions but did not pay the required Goods and Services Tax (GST). As a result, the businessman suffered a huge financial loss. According to the complaint registered by the businessman against the accused has been identified as Salman under sections 318(4) (cheating), 336 (forgery) and and other related laws under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the IT Act, the name of the criminal is Salman, as per the officials. Officials said the accused offered to purchase the firm of the business that registered a complaint against him in December 2024. During this process, he took the company’s documents, along with its GST number and password. And then after getting all the related documents, the accused quickly amended the login details of the businessman in GST file and also linked complainant's email ID and mobile number with his GST account. The officials said, "With the help of fake and fabricated documents, Salman made business transactions amounting to Rs 25 crore in the name of the victim's company and evaded the payment of GST amounting to Rs 4.5 crore." The investigation is in progress, however, no one has been arrested yet.
