CA Demands Tax Audit 2025 Deadline extension: Know More

Businesses and professionals are required to get their accounts audited by a Chartered Accountant (CA); this is called a tax audit, and a report for the same is required to be submitted to the Income Tax Department. According to the Income Tax Act, in India, certain taxpayers whose turnover or gross receipts exceed a certain limit (for instance, Rs. 1 crore for business or Rs. 50 lakh for profession-limits may vary) are required to get their accounts audited.

The tax audit deadline is September 30, 2025, and filing ITR for audit cases is October 31, 2025, for the assessment year 2025-26 (financial year 2024-25); However, it has been seen in past that sometimes the government extends this deadline because of several reasons, such as delays in software updates, representations by professional bodies, or genuine hardships faced by taxpayers. A Chartered Accountant (CA), Sudhir Halakhandi, suggests on the platform ‘X’ that “The tax audit date should be 31st Dec. 2025 now.” This will provide all taxpayers some extra time to get their books audited and submit the Tax Audit Report for the Assessment Year 2025-26, which is the Financial Year 2024-25 (from April 01, 2024, to March 31, 2025).

This extension is important because if it is implemented, it will reduce the pressure on taxpayers and CAs and give them more time to comply with tax laws properly. However, if someone still does not file their tax audit report by the revised due date (if implemented), they may face penalties and consequences, like disallowance of expenses or fines under Section 271B of the Income Tax Act.
