CBI Arrests Proclaimed Offender Jharna Mistry in Post-Poll Violence Murder Case

In connection with a post-poll violence murder case, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has apprehended Proclaimed Offender (PO) Jharna Mistry (W/o co-accused Sanjay Mistry) from Ghoshpara, Santoshpur, South 24 Parganas Dist., West Bengal.

An FIR in the present case was registered in 2021. According to the probe, she had never taken part in the investigation or trial in this post-poll violence case. An award of Rs 50,000 has been set by the CBI for her arrest.

An instant case was registered in the present matter on August 19, 2021, following the issuance of an order passed by the Honourable Calcutta High Court. The CBI took over FIR No. 345/2021, dated May 3, 2021, registered at Jagaddal Police Station in North 24 Parganas, West Bengal. The FIR was based on allegations of post-poll violence in which the complainant’s mother, Smt Sova Rani Mondal, was allegedly killed by the accused.

The CBI furnished a Suppl. Chargesheet on December 29, 2021, against a total of twelve accused persons, along with Jharna Mistry, after the completion of the investigation.

Presently, the apprehended accused/PO is being produced before the Competent Court at Barrackpore today, September 29, 2026.
