CBI Secures Extradition of Wanted Fugitive Amritpal Singh from Moldova to India:

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has successfully secured the extradition of wanted fugitive Amritpal Singh alias Gurpal Singh from Moldova to India. He was brought to India on September 12, 2026. This was made possible in collaboration with the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) and Punjab Police.

Amritpal Singh is wanted in multiple serious criminal cases registered in Punjab. The cases include double murder involving firearms, offences under the Arms Act and the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. His criminal record also includes allegations of forgery and cheating, use of forged documents and violations of the Passport Act.

At the request of the Punjab Police, the CBI obtained an INTERPOL Red Notice against Amritpal Singh. The Red Notice helped authorities locate and arrest him in Moldova. An extradition request was sent to the Moldovan authorities after Singh’s arrest. After completing the required legal process, Moldova approved his extradition to India.

According to the sources, a Punjab Police team consisting of four members had travelled to Chisinau, Moldova, in order to bring Amritpal Singh back to India. The team, along with the accused, arrived in Delhi on September 12, 2026.

The CBI functions as India's National Central Bureau for INTERPOL and coordinates with law enforcement agencies across the country through BHARATPOL for assistance through INTERPOL channels. According to the CBI, more than 175 wanted criminals have been brought back to India in recent years through such coordination.
