Diwali Muhurat Trading 2025: Know Date, Timing and More
The National Stock Exchange (NSE) and Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) will schedule a Diwali Muhurat Trading session. The session will be held on Tuesday, October 21, between 1:45 pm and 2:45 pm, and the modification window will close at 2:55 pm. The new tradition marks the start of the new financial year (Vikram Samvat 2082) according to the Hindu calendar and is considered an auspicious time to invest in the stock market.
Vikram Samvat 2082 is the Hindu New Year, which started on March 30, 2025, and is celebrated as Hindu Nav Varsha. It is believed that on this day, Lord Brahma started the creation of the universe. It is the symbol of renewal, prosperity, and fresh beginnings, offering hope and good fortune for the year ahead.
The word Muhurat means an auspicious time to start something new. It is believed that during this time, the trading attracts wealth and good fortune. Muhurat Trading is a one-hour session that is scheduled every year on Diwali. Usually, the session is conducted in the evening. But this year, it will be conducted in the afternoon. Many investors buy their stock during this session to show their respect towards the Goddess Lakshmi, as she is worshipped on the occasion of Diwali.
During this session, the markets become volatile, and traders believe that the trading during this session benefits them throughout the year.
During last year's Muhurat Trading session, the BSE Sensex increased by 354.77 points (0.55%) to close at 65,259.45, with 28 out of 30 stocks ending higher. The NIFTY50 also saw a gain of 100.20 points (0.52%), finishing at 19,525.55, due to the strong performances in the IT, infrastructure, and energy sectors, as 43 of its 50 stocks closed in the green.
