Due to Heat Waves Early Summer Vacation Starts in Punjab Schools

The Punjab Government has decided that the summer vacations for the Punjab Schools start today, i.e., May 21, 2024, due to the heat waves. This decision came after the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) predicted an intense heat wave in parts of Punjab, Delhi, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Rajasthan, and a few regions of Gujarat on May 18.

All the schools, including government, aided or non-aided, will remain closed from today, May 21, 2024, to June 30, 2024. The Punjab Government issued an advisory on Sunday regarding the timing of schools, saying that it should be 7:00am to 12:00pm. But then the government changed their decision and announced that the schools should remain closed from today onwards, i.e., Tuesday.

As per the statement of Kamal Kishor Yadav, the secretary of the state education department, the summer vacations of the Punjab Schools have been advanced due to the orange alert for severe heat waves. This decision was made after considering the feedback from various districts regarding the student’s troubles due to extreme weather conditions. The schools that were earlier going to start their summer vacations on June 1, 2024, will now start their vacations early.
