FSSAI Introduces New ePAAS Single Window System for Food Approvals and Claims
The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has issued an Official Order, dated May 06, 2026, announcing the introduction of a Single Window System called the Electronic Product and Claim Approval Application System (ePAAS). This window has been implemented to simplify and streamline the approval process for certain food products, ingredients, and claims.
As per this order, all applications related to prior approval and risk assessment must be submitted using this single window, i.e., the ePAAS portal, starting from June 01, 2026. This change will eliminate the manual, offline, or email-based submissions. Processes, including application submission, processing, tracking, and appeal submission, will be handled through this common digital platform.
This new system will cover approvals for Non-Specified Food and Food Ingredients (NSF&FI), authorisation of recycled PET (r-PET), approval of food claims, Ayurveda Aahara products, Foods for Special Medical Purpose (FSMP), vegan endorsement, and notifications related to vitamins, minerals, and amino acid derivatives. Any other food product, ingredient, process, or system requiring prior approval under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, will also fall under this mechanism.
FSSAI has clarified that, unless separately mentioned in the regulations, the application formats and required documents will remain as prescribed under the Food Safety and Standards (Approval of Non-Specified Food and Food Ingredients) Regulations, 2017. The FSSAI will shortly provide all necessary forms, formats, and guidelines on the ePAAS portal for applicants and stakeholders.
Refer to the official order for complete information.
