IBPS to Use Aadhaar for Candidate Verification in Exams

Government Allows Aadhaar Authentication for banking exams
The Department of Financial Services, Ministry of Finance, has allowed the Institute of Banking Personnel Selection (IBPS) to use Aadhaar Authentication for verifying candidates during the examinations conducted by it in order to prevent unfair practices and impersonation in the entrance examinations.
This Aadhaar authentication involves using Yes/No and/or e-KYC authentication facilities on a voluntary basis for verifying the identity of candidates during examinations and recruitment processes.
The aim behind this action is to strengthen the recruitment process in the Banking, Financial Services, and Insurance (BFSI) sector and encourage transparency, but also protect honest candidates from being disadvantaged due to malpractices.
The decision has been notified in a notification issued by the Department of Financial Services, Ministry of Finance, published in the Gazette of India vide S.O.837 (pg.1614-15/c), addressed to IBPS, known as a 'Public Examination Authority' under the 'Public Examination (Prevention of Unfair Means) Act, 2024.'
The notification is being issued under Rule 5 of the Aadhaar Authentication for Good Governance (Social Welfare, Innovation, Knowledge) Rules, 2020, permitting IBPS to use Yes/No or e-KYC authentication facilities on a voluntary basis for verifying candidates' identity during the examination.
This authorisation is being awarded to IBPS after consulting with the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) and getting approval from the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY).
It will also make identity checks simpler and faster, decrease paperwork, and help people trust the exam and selection process more.
