GST Inspector arrested for Accepting Rs. 2 lakh Bribe to settle ITC discrepancies in GST Return On May 07, 2025, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) arrested an Inspector of CGST (Central Goods and Services Tax) for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs. two lakh from a complainant. The case was registered by the Central Bureau of Investigation on May 07, 2025, against the CGST Inspector claiming that the inspector demanded an illegal bribe of Rs. 11 lakh from the complainant due to discrepancies in the Input Tax Credit of his firm’s GST return. It was further alleged that the Inspector persistently pressured the complainant to pay the bribe, threatening to take punitive actions against the firm if the demand was not met. After negotiations, the accused agreed to accept a reduced bribe of Rs. 2 lakh. CBI formed a trap to catch the accused red-handed. The bribe was accepted by the inspector in a car. However, when the CBI team reached at the crime spot, the accused tried escaping from there. While escaping from the spot, the accused even damaged the official vehicle of CBI also many private vehicles nearby with his car. Searches are being conducted at the accused person's office and home. Further investigation is in progress.
