Haryana: Tempo Driver Received Income Tax Notice Worth Rs. 31.67 crore
The Income Tax Department has issued a tax notice of Rs. 31.67 crore to a tempo driver in Bhiwani, Haryana. As per the notice, the driver had taken a GST number but didn’t pay any GST, even though there were transactions of over Rs. 31 crore in his bank account within a year. However, the driver, Raj Singh, said that he never went to the GST office. He claims His account was opened fraudulently in Delhi. He has purchased his tempo by taking a loan. He earns between Rs. 500 and Rs. 1000 per day, and it is impossible to make many transactions with this small amount.
The tempo driver received the notice on March 25, and it directed him to respond by April 15, 2025. The driver had responded through his lawyer. Additionally, he has also appealed to the Police.
The tempo driver suspects that an unknown person received a GST number by using his PAN and Aadhar details, which are registered at Rahul Plastic Shop in Karawal area of Delhi. He said he does not have any GST number and has never issued one.
The Income Tax notice reveals that the total turnover, including fake transactions, is Rs. 31,67,10,873 (Rs 31 crore 67 lakh 10 thousand 873).
Raj Singh said that there is a wife and 2 children in his family. His daughter is the eldest and is married, while his son is still pursuing his studies. He owns a Tata 407 (tempo), which he bought on loan from a bank. He timely repays the loan in instalments. He earns Rs. 500 to Rs. 1000 per day. He was shocked when he received the notice.
