Haryana Witnessed 5 Times More GST Collection As Compared to Punjab In 2024-25
Haryana has collected five times more Goods and Services Tax (GST) as compared to Punjab during the financial year 2024-25.
Throughout the entire financial year, Haryana’s total gross GST collection reached Rs. 1,19,362 crore. This indicates a robust 16% growth against 2023-24. According to Haryana Excise and Taxation Commissioner Vinay Pratap Singh, this is the highest growth rate among all states and has crossed the national average rate of 10%.
In contrast, Punjab saw a net annual GST growth of 12.99%. Its GST collection for the year was Rs. 23,642.15 crore, which is an increase from Rs. 20,923.37 crore collected during the last financial year.
Haryana’s gross GST collection for March 2025 is Rs. 10,648 crore, showing a 12% increase compared to March 2024. This growth positions Haryana at 6th rank among the best-performing states when it comes to GST growth percentage for March, whereas the national average growth rate for the month is 8.79%
On the other hand, Punjab collected Rs. 1,913.82 crore in GST in March 2025, which is an 8.63% increase from the Rs. 1,761.70 crore collected in March 2024.
Haryana officials admit that nearly 65% of the state’s GST collection comes from Gurgaon, which contributes 45%, and Faridabad, which adds 20%. In addition to these, Panipat also makes a contribution of around 7–8% to the state’s total GST revenue.
When asked why Haryana’s GST collection is higher, a senior Punjab officer, speaking on the condition of anonymity, said it is mainly because a large part of Haryana is part of the National Capital Region (NCR), which gives it an economic advantage.
The officer also pointed out that Punjab has also shown a good performance, with a net annual GST growth rate of 12.99% this year compared to the previous financial year. He further added that Punjab has strong industrial hubs like Ludhiana and Mandi Gobindgarh, which contribute significantly to the state’s GST revenue.
