ICAI notifies Update on UDIN Portal; From Changes in Data Entry to Numeric Format

The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) has released an upgrade for the Unique Document Identification Number (UDIN) webpage. It was announced that the format used for entering figures and values would change from alphabetic to numeric beginning with the Audit and Assurance Functions category on December 6, 2024.

It was stated that this phased implementation will include the GST and Tax Audit categories on December 13, 2024, and the Certificates category on December 20, 2024. The modifications aim to standardise the data entered by members, assuring consistency and accuracy across all categories.

Members will be able to see the updated format in their “List UDIN” dashboard, while verifiers will see it on their verification panel. This change becomes effective immediately and is expected to improve uniformity in the UDIN generating process. The goal of capturing obligatory figures/values in numeric format is to ensure consistency in the figures/values submitted by members for UDIN generation.

The data will be displayed in the modified format in the “List UDIN” section of the member’s dashboard, as well as in the verifier panel. The adjustment in the aforementioned data type provision takes immediate effect.

The change will be executed in three stages, beginning with audit and assurance functions, followed by GST and Tax Audit, and finally Certificates. Starting with the given date, only numeric numbers will be accepted for figures and values on the UDIN portal.

The update was intended to improve accuracy and streamline the production of UDINs. To ensure compliance and eliminate anomalies, chartered accountants should become familiar with the upgraded system.
