IIT Dharwad Ph.D. Admission 2024 (Open): The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Dharwad, Karnataka is a beacon of academic excellence. IIT Dharwad has invited applications for Ph.D. admissions in 2024 from prospective candidates for the Academic year 2024-25. IIT Dharwad offers a 3-year PhD program across 10 departments in Engineering, Science, Humanities, and Arts. Applicants must hold a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree with a minimum of 60% and a valid GATE score, JRF of CSIR/UGC, DST INSPIRE Fellowship, or UGC-NET Lectureship. Offline interviews will be conducted in two rounds, with total fees amounting to INR 66,000, inclusive of tuition.

The selection process for the IIT Dharwad Ph.D. program is rigorous, comprising two interview rounds (Round I and Round II). Financial Assistance for IIT Dharwad PhD Students:
IIT Dharwad extends financial aid to its PhD scholars through programs such as Teaching Assistantship and Visvesvaraya PhD Fellowship.
Teaching Assistantship:
Eligibility: Open to students with MTech/ ME/ MSc/ MPhil qualifications.
Duration: Up to 5 years or until thesis defense.
Stipend: Monthly stipend of INR 37,000 for the initial two years, and INR 42,000 thereafter, along with HRA.
Visvesvaraya PhD Fellowship:
Institutional scheme with allocated seats.
Monthly fellowship of Rs. 38,750 for the 1st and 2nd years, and Rs. 43,750 for the 3rd, 4th, and 5th years.
Additional Support: Research Contingency Grant of Rs. 1.20 Lakhs.

Q: What are the entrance criteria for Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering at IIT Dharwad?
A: Candidates applying for the Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering must hold either an M.Tech./ equivalent degree or a B.Tech./ equivalent with a minimum of 60% marks (55% for SC/ST candidates) or a CGPA of 6.0/10 (5.5 for SC/ST candidates).
Q: Can a candidate apply for the Ph.D. program if they have not yet received their qualifying degree?
A: Yes, students in the final phase of receiving the qualifying degree, as specified by the Institute, and expected to graduate before the start of the Autumn 2024 semester at IIT Dharwad are eligible to apply. However, admission offered to such candidates would be provisional, contingent upon furnishing the necessary documents regarding degree completion upon joining the academic program at IIT Dharwad.
Q: Can IIT Dharwad cancel the admission of students?
A: Yes, selected candidates must produce all relevant documents within a specified deadline. Failure to do so may result in the cancellation of admission by the Institute.
Q: Does IIT Dharwad provide any relaxation for SC/ST category candidates?
A: Yes, SC/ST category candidates and differently-abled candidates (PwD) are eligible for a relaxation of 5% (or CPI/CGPA of 0.5 on a scale of 0-10) in the qualifying degree.
