Income Tax Crackdown: Big Action Against Fake Deductions and Exemptions Claims
The Income Tax Department has started a major investigation to detect wrongly claimed tax deductions and exemptions in Income Tax Returns (ITRs). The department is planning to take strict action against individuals involved in these fraudulent activities. These activities involve fake claims, organised fraud, and misuse of tax benefits.
The department discovered after a detailed analysis that some individuals are misusing tax benefits permitted under sections like 10(13A), 80GGC, 80E, 80D, 80EE, 80EEB, 80G, 80GGA, and 80DDB. In numerous such cases, they are performing this with the assistance of professional intermediaries.
In order to detect such fraud cases, the department is utilising advanced AI tools and information from other sources to identify suspicious activities.
