Income Tax Department Cracks Down on Fake PAN-Aadhaar Use in Land Registrations
The Income Tax Department is nowadays keeping a close watch on big property registrations in the sub-registrar offices. They are carefully examining the Aadhar and PAN cards of both buyers and sellers. Recently, after visiting Gorakhpur and Maharajganj, a team of income tax officials came to the Deoria Sadar Registrar's Office three days ago. They took details of some big property deals with them.
The department is now targeting people who buy and sell land frequently but do not pay taxes according to their income. For this, the tax department is collecting information about large deals of land, houses, shops, etc., along with the Aadhaar and PAN cards used in those transactions from the registry offices.
This is because, as of now, several cases have come out where the accused have registered valuable and big properties using bogus Aadhaar and PAN cards. Therefore, now the Income Tax Department has become more strict in these matters and has increased its scrutiny in this context. This month, a group of income tax officials visited the registry office in Gorakhpur to analyse hundreds of deal documents. A few days ago, a few officials also visited the Sadar Sub-Registrar's office in Maharajganj for investigation, where they examined land transactions.
In both scenarios, the team collected information on the documents and verified the sources of income of both buyers and sellers. This team visiting the registry offices included officials of the Income Department from several districts nationwide.
Three days ago, a team from the Income Tax Department visited the Sadar Sub-Registrar’s office in Deoria. There, the team took the registry records of some big property deals. They wanted to confirm if the PAN and Aadhaar cards of the buyers and sellers were genuine.
The officials also asked for details about the buyers’ sources of income and whether the PAN numbers were properly used in these large land transactions. These recent actions of the Income Tax Department have increased worry among individuals who have recently and quickly become rich in the last few years by buying and selling land using illegal money or by evading taxes.
The Income Tax team collected documents and information during their visit. Similar inspections have also been carried out in other districts’ sub-registrar offices. According to Syed Sajjad Ahmed, Sub-Registrar of Sadar Tehsil, Deoria, all the information asked for by the team was provided.
