Commercial Taxes Dept. officer Arrested for Taking Bribe of Rs. 20 Lakhs in Bengaluru An inspector of the Commercial Taxes Department, named Nijanandamurthy MR, has been arrested in Bengaluru for taking a bribe of Rs. 20 Lakh. After taking this bribe amount, he permitted illegal transportation of paan masala deliveries from Delhi to Bengaluru. The officer was arrested on Thursday by the Lokayukta police near Nagarabhavi when he was taking bride of a total of 20 Lakh in cash from a person named Manoj M. The Lokayukta police said the arrest was made after they found out that department officials were accepting bribes to help transport paan masala illegally from Delhi to Bengaluru through the national highway. This legal assistance has caused losses in crores to the public funds. A team headed by Pavan Najjur, Lokayukta Superintendent of Police (Bengaluru Rural), arrested the officer under the Prevention of Corruption Act.
