Man Finds His Father's 60-Year-Old Passbook; Incident makes him millionaire
A man living in Chile finds his father's 60-year-old passbook in his home. An account once thought to have no value was later found to be worth more than Rs 10 crore after a court ordered the government to repay the amount along with interest.
The name of the man is Exequiel Hinojosa. He is a resident of Chile, South America. He found an old bank passbook of his father, who deposited approximately Rs 1.4 lakh in the 1960s-70s in order to purchase a house. After his father's death, no one was aware of that account.
In the present day, the bank no longer exists. Before, Exequiel Hinojosa was assuming the password had no value, but the moment he noticed the word “State Guarantee” on it, he realised that even if the bank is not in existence, the bank is still responsible for compensating depositors with that amount.
Exequiel Hinojosa then approached the authority to compensate him with that amount, but they did not take action on his request. Then he took legal action. He filed a case in court.
After several dates, the court took a decision in his favour. The court ordered the government to return to him the exact amount as stated in the passbook, along with interest. As a result, a total of $1.2 million (Rs 102,779,580) is refunded to the man by the government.
