MCA Notifies Tribunal to Decide Disputes in Matter of 26th Council Elections of ICAI

The Ministry of Corporate Affairs released a notification on April 17, 2025, establishing a Tribunal to resolve disputes related to the election of the Council of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI), which was conducted in December 2024. This Tribunal has been created under the powers granted by section 10B of the Chartered Accountants Act, 1949, and in accordance with the rules set out in the Chartered Accountants (Election Tribunal) Rules, 2006.

The Tribunal will be made up of three members:

Ms. Anju Rathi Rana, who will serve as the Presiding Officer. She is the Secretary of the Ministry of Law and Justice, Department of Legal Affairs.

Ms. S Meenakshi, who will be a Member. She is the Official Liquidator, based at Khurshid Lal Bhawan, Janpath, New Delhi.

Mr. Shri Sanjay Shorey, who will also be a Member. He is the Director General of Corporate Affairs, based at Kota House Annexe, New Delhi.

The notification states that this Tribunal will come into effect immediately upon its publication in the Official Gazette. It will handle any disputes that arise from the election to the ICAI Council that took place in December 2024.
