New single-day exam format will provide a more equitable testing experience for CUET UG and NET aspirants

On Monday, i.e. 22nd May 2024,  UGC Chief Jagadesh Kumar declared that this year, the National Eligibility Test and the Common University Entrance Test-UG score normalization would be discontinued.

“No normalization of scores will be required this year since both exams will be conducted in a single shift for a subject”. – Mr.Jagadesh Kumar told PTI.

“Initially, to provide every student access to their first choice, we had to administer the same test over two or three days. However, this year’s adoption of the OMR mode will allow us to administer the test nationwide on the same day because many centres at universities and schools will be available. It’s a scientific approach and normalization is necessary if the test is administered over several days for the same paper,” the UGC chairman added.

There will be two ways to administer the CUET-UG 2024 exam: computer-based testing (CBT) for 48 subjects and pen and paper for 15 subjects. From 15th May 2024 to 24th May 2024, the CUET-UG 2024 test will take place. On June 16, 2024, utilizing pen and paper, the UGC NET 2024 will be taking place.

The UGC-NET examination is used to evaluate an applicant’s eligibility for one of three programs in Indian universities and colleges: “admission to PhD only,” “appointment as assistant professor and admission to PhD,” and “award of Junior Research Fellowship and appointment as assistant professor.”
