New temperature rule for ACs: Know what is Minimum AC Temperature Limit as per new Rule

The Central Government has recently shared that a new framework is being prepared, which will restrict you from lowering your AC temperature below 20°C. The Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE), under the Ministry of Power, is working on a plan to set a standard AC temperature between 20°C and 28°C. If this regulation is enforced, you will not be able to set your AC temperature below 20°C, whether you are at your home or office or hotels or even in a car.

The government is putting this restriction to enhance energy efficiency and reduce the increasing power burden. This will save electricity and control the rising energy demand in the country. During the summers, the electricity demand is at its peak and electricity consumption also rises with this demand. Many people set their AC temperature at 16°C. This overloads the burden on the power grid.

As per studies, every increase of 1°C in AC temperature reduces energy use by 6%. Therefore, if we set our ACs just 1 degree higher, we can save about 3 gigawatts of power during peak times.

The government has announced that it is working towards this initiative. As of now, the plan is in the final stages of discussion, but no official notification or specific timeline has been announced yet.
