NPCI Introduces Continuous Cheque Clearing System for Faster Processing The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) recently posted on social media X (previously known as Twitter) regarding cheque clearance. NPCI added that according to the Reserve Bank of India's (RBI) instructions, the cheque clearing system has changed. Earlier, cheques were cleared in batches (T+1). Now, the system uses continuous clearing (T+D) for faster processing. This new system started on October 4, 2025. Since then, around 1.49 crore cheques worth Rs. 8,49,557 crore have been processed through the central system.

In the beginning, there were some problems. These issues came from both the central system, run by NPCI, and from the participating banks. Because of this, there were delays in clearing cheques and there were also delays in crediting money to customer accounts, and many cheques were returned. However, most of these problems have now been fixed. The central system has been working smoothly since Monday, October 13, 2025. NPCI added that they are still working with banks to solve any remaining issues and to make sure customers get same-day credit for their cheques.
