The following are the numbers of people who have registered for the Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana (PMJJBY) and Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana (PMSBY):

Dr Bhagwat Kisanrao Karad, Union Minister of State for Finance, mentioned this in a written response to a question in the Lok Sabha today.

The Minister declared that state-by-state claims paid under PMJJBY & PMSBY from April 1, 2017 to February 23, 2022 have been ANNEXED.

More specifically, the Minister indicated that PMJJBY and PMSBY were launched on May 9, 2015 with the goal of increasing insurance penetration in the country and providing insurance coverage to common people, particularly the poor and under-privileged. While PMJJBY offers a 2-lakh life insurance policy, PMSBY offers a 2-lakh accidental death or total permanent disability policy and a 1-lakh permanent partial disability policy. There are no plans to enhance the insurance coverage amounts under PMJJBY and PMSBY.

According to the Ministry of Labour and Employment, the Pradhan Mantri Shram Yogi Maan-Dhan (PM-SYM) Pension Scheme was introduced in 2019 to give old age protection to unorganised sector workers, including domestic workers who meet the scheme’s eligibility conditions. The PM-SYM is a voluntary and contributory Central Sector pension programme that provides a qualified recipient with a monthly minimum assured income of Rs. 3000/- after they reach the age of 60. Workers between the ages of 18 and 40 who earn less than Rs. 15000 per month, are not members of the Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO), Employees’ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC), or the National Pension Scheme (NPS), and are not income tax payers are eligible to join the scheme. The beneficiary pays half of the monthly contribution, and the Central Government matches it, according to the Minister.
