Customers Claim Unauthorised Withdrawals Without SMS Alerts

Customers of Punjab National Bank (PNB), Greater Noida Branch, have alleged that about Rs 35 crore in cash seems missing from their savings bank accounts and fixed deposits. Several account holders have claimed that they neither performed these transactions nor received any alert SMS about the cash withdrawal.
According to the sources, the bank has suspended several employees, including the branch manager, following the unveiling of this fraud case. The case was registered at the Beta-2 Police Station, falling under the jurisdiction of the bank's branch location.
The bank has assured all its affected customers that it will listen to and address all the complaints filed by its customers. According to the local police, a total of 25 complaints against the bank have been filed as of now. One of the affected customers, named Vijendra Singh, told the reporters that previously his savings account had nearly 87 to 88 lakhs; however, after the fraud, only 1 lakh is left in his account. Singh claimed that as he was a farmer, he had received compensation from the concerned authority.
Another customer, named Haneef Khan, stated that he had neither received any text message nor signed any document approving the transaction. He claimed he held a savings account in PNB Bank located in the Pi-1 area of Aichhar in Greater Noida and had about Rs 39 lakh in it. However, at present, his account is completely empty, and the complete amount has been withdrawn from his account.
Similarly, another affected customer, Zakir, told the reporters that about Rs 9.5 lakh seems missing from his savings account. He further said that he was completely unaware of the incident, as he did not receive any text message regarding the cash withdrawal from the bank's side, and he only learned about the incident when he visited the branch.
Sanchit Sharma, assistant commissioner of police, Greater Noida, has stated that "we have registered a case under Section 316(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), related to criminal breach of trust by a public servant or banker. An anti-corruption team from the state is also probing the matter."
Further investigation into the present fraud is ongoing.
