The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has informed all banks handling government transactions to remain open on Monday, March 31, 2025. This is done to prevent discrepancies in financial reporting; all transactions for FY 2024-25 must be recorded within the same time period. However, on the same day, there is a holiday in some states.
Why was there an earlier holiday on March 31, 2025?
- Earlier, there used to be a holiday on March 31, 2025, in almost all state banks in india except Himachal Pradesh and Mizoram for Ramzan-Id (Id-Ul-Fitr).
- All government-related financial transactions, such as receipts and payments, are ensured by the latest directive that are properly accounted for within the financial year 2024-25. The financial year will end on March 31, 2025.

- The government’s financial year will end on March 31, 2025, which means that government-related transactions such as revenue, payments, and settlements are required to be completed before the next government’s financial year starts.
Banking Services Will be Available on March 31, 2025

- Disbursement of government salaries and allowances.
- Public transactions related to government schemes and subsidies.
Bank Holiday on April 1, 2025
- In most union territories, except for Meghalaya, Chhattisgarh, Mizoram, West Bengal, Himachal Pradesh, and Meghalaya, banks will remain closed on Monday, April 01, 2025, for the annual account closing, as instructed by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI).

- Online and mobile banking services are anticipated to stay available for government-related transactions like tax payments and fund transfers.
