Real-Life ‘Special 26’: Posing as Income Tax Officials, Robbers Loot Rs 4 Lakh Cash and Gold
In a recent incident, five men pretending to be officials of the Income Tax Department robbed the residence of a contractor named Rajkumar Malvi in Madhya Pradesh's Dhar district on Friday. The robber arrived at the location of the robbery in a black Scorpio SUV. The robbery looked similar to the story of the Bollywood movie Special 26.
The robbers enter the residence, saying they are conducting a raid under the Income Tax Department. They escaped the house after locking the family members inside their own house. The incident took place at around 10 AM in the Brahmin Mohalla area of Bagh town.
When the robbers entered the location, they posed as officers of the Income Tax Department. They claimed that they had received information regarding "Black Money" stored in the house of the contractor. Assuming the raid was a genuine government action and the officials were real, the contractor cooperated while the men checked wardrobes, trunks, and cupboards.
Thereafter, they asked for the family locker's keys. During the process, they confiscated around 50 tolas (500 grams) of gold jewellery, Rs 4 lakh in cash, and three mobile phones. To make sure the escape was clear, while leaving the house, they locked the contractor and his wife in their residence.
They stayed locked until the contractor somehow succeeded in contacting his neighbours. Thereafter, they registered a complaint at the police station. After that, senior officers, including Kukshi SDOP Sunil Gupta and Bagh TI Kailash Chauhan, reached the incident location for investigation. When the contractor's house was searched, the police recovered one of the stolen mobile phones from a garbage dump.
The Dhar Superintendent of Police, Mayank Awasthi, stated, "A cyber team has been sent to Bagh, and police across the district are on high alert. CCTV footage of the black Scorpio is being analysed, and teams are searching for the accused." The further investigation concerning the case is ongoing. The police have collected images of the vehicle used to perform the crime from the CCTV camera and have requested neighbours to disclose any relevant information about the case, if they are aware of it.
