Rs 10 Crore Scam in a Month: How a Girl and Her Gang Fooled Dozens

In a recent shocking case, a group of young scammers aged between 27 and 28 were engaged in online fraud, where they took over Rs 10 crore from innocent people, within just one month.

It all began with friendly chats on WhatsApp. There was a girl named Sakshi Yadav who targeted victims through conversations. She never met them in person but used charm and tricks to gain their trust. She scammed a guy from Delhi, where she used her clever tricks and built trust. After some time, she introduced him to a fake trading group on WhatsApp called ‘eToro Analytical Team & Time is Money‘, claiming it was run by her uncle and a man named Rakesh. In that group, the guy was shown fake screenshots of massive profits and stories of how their lives had changed through stock investments.

What Was the Trap?

At first, victims were asked to invest small amounts and were even shown fake profits or refunded some money, just to build trust. Once the victims start believing them, they are asked to invest bigger amounts.

But when the amount became large, suddenly they were told that they were incurring losses or that their accounts were frozen due to tax issues. But slowly, the scammers disappeared, leaving the victims with no money and no response.

By doing this, the Guy from Delhi lost Rs 8.15 lakh. After realising that he had been scammed, he filed a police complaint.

The Money Trail: From Delhi to Nepal

When Delhi Police investigated, they discovered the scam had many people involved in it. It was found that the scammers used many bank accounts to receive and move money. Many of these accounts belonged to regular people who were paid to give access to their bank accounts, also known as money mule fraud.

One of the accounts was in Canara Bank in Andhra Pradesh, where Rs 5.75 lakh was deposited. That money was then quickly moved to an Axis Bank account in Gorakhpur, UP, under the name of Shashi Pratap Singh and his father.

Axis Bank helped to catch both the accused, and police soon arrested Shashi. He confessed he had gone to Nepal with a man named Nihal Pandey, where they stayed in a hotel and worked with others to carry out the scam. Nihal was also arrested after him.
