The Commissioner of Commercial Taxes, Nandanam, Chennai, Government of Tamil Nadu, has issued a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for its helpdesk, with main administrative coordination via the Commercial Taxes Department Portal. The SOP was issued on August 05, 2026.

SOP will ensure timely and uniform assistance to taxpayers, tax practitioners and departmental officials using VAT and GST applications. The help desk will function on working days from 10 AM to 6 PM, with extended support during statutory deadlines. Support will be available in Tamil and English.

The Helpdesk will follow a three-level support system. Common issues such as login, navigation and status queries will be handled by Level 1. Functional problems relating to registration, returns, e-way bills and payments will be monitored by Level 2, while Level 3 will address server, network, database and application-code issues.

The SOP also requires proper authentication before sharing account information and prohibits Helpdesk staff from seeking or storing Passwords and OTPs. Regular daily and monthly reports on tickets, service levels and major incidents will be submitted for review. The SOP will be reviewed annually or whenever there is a significant change in the system or support structure.
