Tax Audit Report Due Date Extended by Income Tax Department
On September 25, 2025, the Income Tax Department announced the extension of the tax audit report due date for the Financial year 2024-25, giving major relief to the taxpayers and chartered accountants. The new date of filing the tax audit report is now October 31, 2025.
The Income Tax Department had earlier further extended the due date for filing Income Tax Return (ITR) for the non-audit cases from September 15, 2025 to September 16, 2025. However, as of now, there is no relief for the ITR filing for audit cases.
The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) informed that the Income Tax portal is working fine and that over 7.57 crore ITRs have been filed as of September 23, 2025. The CBDT said that "the Income Tax e-filing portal has been operating smoothly and without any technical glitches and the tax audit reports are being uploaded successfully. The system is stable and fully functional, enabling submission of various statutory forms and reports."
It also mentioned in a statement that it received representations from many tax bodies and tax professionals, including chartered accountants, who were raising issues in the timely and accurate filing of audit reports.
In the representations, the tax bodies and professionals highlighted some difficulties, including the flood and rainfall situation, which has caused disruptions and affected the operation of business. Many professionals have approached the High Court citing this matter.
"However, keeping in view the representation of the tax practitioners and their submissions before the Hon'ble Courts, the 'specified date' for furnishing of the report of audit under any provision of the Income-Tax Act, 1961, for the previous year 2024-25 (Assessment Year 2025-26)… is extended from 30th September, 2025 to 31st October, 2025," the CBDT said.
