The BJP CA Cell, Pimpri Chinchwad, Pune, has requested the Honourable Union Finance Minister, Government of India, to extend the due date for filing the Tax Audit Reports (TARs) for the Assessment Year 2026-27, from September 30, 2026, to October 31, 2026. This request has been made via a representation dated September 26, 2026.

The representation, submitted on behalf of the BJP CA Cell, noted that the Government has provided August 31, 2026, as the due date for taxpayers having business or professional income who are not liable to tax audit. According to the CA Cell, this leaves tax professionals with only one month between the non-audit ITR deadline and the Tax Audit Report deadline to complete extensive audit and compliance work.

The CA Cell highlighted that ITR forms and related utilities for AY 2026-27 have been released progressively and have also undergone updates and validations. This, it said, has reduced the effective time available for finalising accounts, reconciling information and completing tax-audit filings.

The representation also pointed to the increasing scope of tax audits. Chartered Accountants (CAs) are required to verify books of account and financial statements and reconcile information from GST returns, e-invoices, e-way bills, AIS, TIS, Form 26AS and TDS/TCS records. Other areas include statutory liabilities under Section 43B, MSME disclosures, related-party transactions, loans and deposits, cash receipts and payments, fixed assets, depreciation and various disclosures under Form 3CD.

It further stated that additional financial reporting requirements applicable to non-corporate entities have increased the work involved in preparing and reviewing financial statements. The CA Cell stressed that tax audit is a professional verification and certification exercise and requires sufficient time for checking records, resolving discrepancies and obtaining supporting documents.

Accordingly, the BJP CA Cell has requested the Finance Minister and the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) to extend the Tax Audit Report due date from September 30 to October 31, 2026.
