Taxpayer Awaits ITR Refund for Over 130 Days, Says Delay Affects Daughter’s School Fees The due date for filing Income Tax Return (ITR) for the Financial Year 2024-25 (Assessment Year 2025-26) was September 16, 2025. The date had been extended twice in past. First time, from July 31, 2025, to September 15, 2025, and second time from September 15, 2025, to September 16, 2025. Now, it's been almost 3 months, but the Income Tax Department has not even completed the return processing. A taxpayer named Vijay at platform 'X' has recently shown his frustration over the delay in receiving his Income Tax Return (ITR) refund. On July 27, 2025, he filed his return, and it was verified on the same day; however, the return is still not processed, and it's been 130 days since he filed his return. The taxpayer said that he is awaiting the ITR refund to pay his daughter’s school fees. The date for his daughter's fee submission is approaching, but his refund amount has not been credited yet. He emphasised that, despite completing all formalities correctly and promptly, there has been no update from the Income Tax Department. In his post, the user/taxpayer tagged @IncomeTaxIndia, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, and @FinMinIndia and requested them to either release his refund or at least complete the processing of the return. Expressing his disappointment and frustration, the taxpayer said that it is hard-earned money and not a favour being asked for. The long delay has caused mental stress and financial difficulty, especially when the money is urgently needed for education expenses.
